Maharaja of darbhanga Late Sri Lakshmishwar Singh (1858-1898) encouraged this Art form. P& T department issue first day cover about him.
Madhubani painting (Mithila painting) was made by women from various communities in the Mithila region of India. It was their traditional art.
These paintings were traditionally made on freshly plastered clay walls and hut floors, but are now also made on cloth, hand-made paper and canvas.
